Information Centre Knappenhaus Unterlaussa

History
In the year 1964 mining activities of bauxite were closed down. A 14 km long cable car, the longest in Central Europe at this time, was responsible for transporting the bauxite from the mining site down to the railway station at Weißenbach an der Enns.
Visitors can learn about the 800 year old tradition of bauxite mining including historic details about the local community, extraction methods of the material, transport and manufacture of bauxite. At the Knappenhaus vom Blaberg the end product, aluminium, can also be looked at more closely.
