Arrival by train
The
Ennstalbahn
runs between
Linz and Weißenbach-St. Gallen
. Depending on the time of day and day of the week, the trains run at one to two-hour intervals. Train stations are located in
Ternberg
,
Trattenbach
,
Losenstein
,
Reichraming
, at
Großraming
power station (stop for the Ennstal visitors’ center)
,
Großraming
,
Küpfern
,
Kastenreith
,
Kleinreifling,
and
Weißenbach-St. Gallen
. The stopping-trains traveling from/to
St. Valentin
as well as the regional trains traveling from/to
Linz
, aside from a few exceptions in Küpfern and the Großraming power station, serve all train stations of the Ennstalbahn relevant to the national park. Stopping trains provide connection in St. Valentin to the intercity trains running on the express line between
Vienna
and
Salzburg
.
From the
Großraming train station
,
the No. 448 bus
runs several times a day to the
village
of
Brunnbach
, an important starting point for hikes into the national park, also the site of the Brunnbachschule education center.
The
Steyrtal
is accessible by the
No. 452
(Rohr-Bad Hall-Steinbach an der Steyr) and
433
(Steyr-Molln-Kirchdorf) buses. The timetables vary from hourly connections in the morning and later in the afternoon to longer intervals in the midmorning and weekend.
On the southwestern edge of
Kalkalpen
National Park
is the
Pyhrnbahn line
. It leads
from
Linz
to Selzthal
and constitutes a significant north-south axis. Important train stations for the national park visitor are in
Klaus
,
Hinterstoder
(St. Pankraz),
Roßleithen,
and
Windischgarsten
. With only a few exceptions, stopping-trains run hourly between
Linz
and Spital am Pyhrn or Selzthal. In addition, these frequent stopping trains are supplemented by four intercity connections between
Graz
and
Linz
with a stop in Windischgarsten.
At the
Windischgarsten train station
, the
No. 435 bus runs to Rosenau am Hengstpaß
. It runs several times a day in both directions. In the summer season (1.5. to 26.10.), a bus will take you by appointment as far as the
Hengstpaßhöhe
on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays twice a day, call the Rebhandl company, Tel. 07562/5339.
Other
regional bus lines from Liezen to Windischgarsten
(No. 911), from
Kirchdorf an der Krems to Windischgarsten
(No. 430), and
from Hinterstoder to Windischgarsten
(No. 431) complete the transportation options in the Windischgarsten area and partially function as shuttle and pick-up service to/from the trains on the Pyhrnbahn line.
